What is an FAQ?
FAQ is the abbreviation of "Frequently Asked Questions", which of course means that we will answer questions here which have been asked a lot in the past. Rather than answering the same questions over and over again in our forums and emails, we have listed them all in one single easy to access location for everybody read.
What is an MMORPG?
MMORPG is the abbreviation for "Massively Multiplayer Online Role-playing Game"! The whole term consists of two majort parts: "Massively Multi-player Online Game" (MMOG) means that hundreds or even thousands of players are playing the game at the same time. The "RP" stands for "role-playing" which means that you are playing a character in that particular online game and that you should try to always act like that character when you are logged on. Role-playing games arenīt always fantasy based, but there are role-playing games from lots of other backgrounds, like Science Fiction, World War 2, Ancient Rome or in the case of our game Medieval Pirates and much much more.
What is Bounty Bay Online?
Bounty Bay Online (BBO) is a MMORPG, developed by "Suzhou Snail Electronic Co., Ltd". Basically every player plays the role of a character during the time of exploration and pirates a few centuries ago. You can choose what type of character you want to play, be it simple farmer, skilled craftsman, smart merchant, driven explorer or ruthless pirate. You can freely chose which avenue to go in Bounty Bay Online!
Seabattles of epic proportions, sunken treasures, conquering towns and discovering long forgotten locations are only a few of the things waiting for you in Bounty Bay Online.
Who is Yusho GmbH?
Yusho GmbH is located in Berlin, Germany and is a publisher of MMOGs and e-Sports games and services. Our team has more than 7 years experience in the gaming industry and we have been operating under the name of yusho since 2005. Since July 2006 the German publisher and distributor Frogster Interactive Pictures AG has partnered with yusho GmbH. Our focus in the future will be further developing our activities in the e-Sports and MMOG market.

Which languages will be supported in BBO?
Bounty Bay Online is available in German and English and also soon in French. There will be support in those three languages as well.
Are there separate servers for RPG (role-play) and PvP (player vs player)?
Currently there are no plans to do this. PvP is an integral part of the gameplay in Bounty Bay Online and we think it is the right decision to give you a better feeling for the Pirates age if we donīt separate the servers like this.

Which races and classes will be available in Bounty Bay Online?
There will be no classes in Bounty Bay Online. Every player can chose whichever way he/she wants to go and during his career he can learn more than one skill. The player is free to choose which of the skills he/she wants to learn. Instead of races we have the different seafaring nations from the 14th-16th century in Bounty Bay Online. The nations have different looks and clothing style and at the start of the game, each player can choose which nation he/she wants to play.
Can I switch nations?
Of course you can, but there are different duties and responsibilities for each nation and and you will also need the correct reputation to change your nation. To start the nation-changing process you have to speak to the Prefect in the capital of the Nation you want to join. He will tell you exactly what you have to do to join his nation.
Which ship types will be available and can I own more than one ship?
The ships in Bounty Bay Online are similar to the real ships from the 14th to 16th century. The ships vary in class and size and nationality. There are three basic ship classes:
The Explorer class with average armament and cargo capacity, but with high speed.
The Merchant class with low armament and speed, but high cargo capacity.
The War class with slow speed and low cargo capacity, but with above average armament with very high firepower.
Every player starts with a small explorer type ship and during the course of the game he can buy new ships or upgrade his existing ships. How many ship a player owns is totally up to him/her, but they can command only one ship at any given time. Because you need different skills to command the different ship types it wouldn't make much sense to fill up your inventory with lots of different ships.
We canīt give you an exact number how many different ship types will be available, because new ships may be added to the game from time to time.
How does one level in BBO?
The level system in Bounty Bay Online is one of the most sophisticated of itīs kind. A character doesnīt level as a whole, instead you level seperately in different skills like seabattle, melee and ranged combat, crafting and so on. We have beginner guides available on our website to help you get started as a merchant, crafter or warship captain.
Is there a skill system in BBO?
Yes, there are skills for most aspects of your sailors life. Basically a skill can be raised by training or using the skill. Because Bounty Bay Online has a dynamic level system, you wonīt get new skill points or higher skills automatically if you reach a new level, you have to train each skill separately if you want the skill to increase.
What happens if a character dies?
If a players looses a sea or landfight, his character will be set back to the last port he visited. Besides the damage to his ship, crew losses and loss of fame and goods he was carrying at the time, there will be no additional penalties if a player dies.
Will there be a Player vs Player (PvP) system?
Yes! The PvP system in Bounty Bay Online will be one of the most comprehensive to date. Basically a player is PvP enabled as soon as he leaves the safe waters of his harbour (depending on his/her skill levels). You always have to suspect pirates to attack you on the open sea. Additionally there are undiscovered territories on land where you can be attacked and ambushed by others at all times. As a player you also have to take the political situation in account, because there will be buccaneers with their letters of marque trying to raise their fame glory by attacking enemy nations and sinking enemy ships. The last PvP option will be guild wars, where different guilds fight over the control of vital towns or goods.
Will there be guilds in BBO, and what exactly will guilds be able to do?
Yes! Guilds will be an integral part of Bounty Bay Online because only guilds can capture Cities and ports. If a guild controls a City, the guild also controls and can change the infrastructure. A guild can set import and export taxes and trade embargoes and guild wars. The guilds are structured with the help of different guild ranks and every guild has a guild hall where mercenaries, guards and elite ships can be hired or different benefits for the guilds artisans, warriors and merchants can be set up. It would be too much to describe every aspect of guilds in this FAQ.
Will all cities be controlled by guilds?
No! A lot of cities can be captured and controlled by guilds, but certain fortifications and capitals canīt be captured. There will always be safe harbours for each nation, where you can dock your ship.
Will there be crafting in BBO?
Yes! There will be different crafting professions in Bounty Bay Online. You can craft armour, weapons, potions, ships and much more, but you need resources which you need to harvest or mine. Those resources can then be processed to goods of different type and quality. The quality level of the menufactured goods will be determined by the skill of the player. If you are a member of a guild there will be additional crafting features in the guild hall and it will be easier to craft high level goods.
Is every player a pirate?
Letīs put it this way: "Not every player has to be a pirate!". There are a lot of different options in Bounty Bay Online and being a pirate is only one of them. You can also be a craftsman, merchant, explorer or battlship captain. You can also be all of them at the same time if you want.
Will there be unique ingame events in BBO?
Yes! In addition to the quests there will be ingame events as well for our players. Some events will be announced before they start and there will be other events wwhich will be spontaneous. Participation is not necessary for either type of event, and those who participate will not have any special advantage over those who do not participate.
What are instances, and will all dungeons be instanced?
Instances are identical copies of a location in an online game. The thought behind using instances is, that instancing gives a guarantee that a certain location, dungeon, quest mob etc is readily available for everbody, even if a high number of players has a certain quest for that mob/area at the same time. If there were only one location where all those players had to go, there would potentionally be a lot of overcrowding with all itīs disadvantages. To counter that, a new identical copy (instance) will be opened for each group. There are certain disadvantages as well and because of that Bounty Bay Online uses instancing only in certain areas of the game. Important quest areas will most likely be instances, while most other dungeons and places wonīt be instanced and you can adventure with more than one group in those areas at the same time and also see and interact with each other.
What is a forum moderator for BBO?
A forum moderator is responsible to make sure our forum users know and obey all our forum rules and regulations. Forum moderators can either be employees of yusho GmbH or volunteers from our community.
Typical duties of a forum moderators are:
- Answering players questions as quickly as possible.
- Mediating between players & guilds when there is a conflict.
- Closing or editing posts if necessary.
- Help players with technical questions or problems.
Volunteers arenīt paid for their forum moderator job, but they wonīt have to pay for their Bounty Bay Online account. If a volunteer steps down from they're moderator post, they will have to pay for they're account.
What is a gamemaster for BBO?
A gamemaster is somebody whoīs job is to help players who have problems in Bounty Bay Online. Gamemasters have different tools to help them with these tasks, for example they can teleport through the game world to reach players with problems faster and can spawn monsters, items and NPCs. Gamemasters are either employees of yusho GmbH or volunteers out of our Bounty Bay Online community.
The typical tasks of a gamemaster are:
- Mediating between players & guilds when there is a conflict.
- Replacing missing or lost items.
- Finding bugs and testing bug fixes.
- Arrange and participate in in-game events.
Gamemasters donīt answer general questions about the game or about quests. All gamemasters have the right to a free Bounty Bay Online account and have access to all gamemaster tools, but are otherwise not paid for their job. If a player steps down from the position as gamemaster, he/she automatically loses the right to a free account and the use of all gamemaster tools.
How can I become a gamemaster?
First of all you need a lot of experience playing Bounty Bay Online. Additionally you need good communication skills and you need to be tactful and cautious in all situations. A good gamemaster has to be impartial and calm even in the most complicated situations and when facing hot tempered players. If you meet all those criterias and are interested in becoming a BBO gamemaster, please send an e-mail to gamemaster@bountybayonline.de. If we are looking for additional gamemasters, we will notify our community in the news section of our website. Please note that because of legal reasons you must be at least 20 years old to be a Bounty Bay Online gamemaster.
Requirements to apply for Game Masters
- Must be at least 20 years old
- Must have a total level of at least 500
- Must have a game account which has been active for at least 3 months
- Can not have had any warnings either in game or in forum
- Aprx 10 hours available per week
- Optional: Knowledge of other languages (German/French)
