Historical background of guilds
Guilds have always motivated by the shared interests and goals of their members. The first guilds were founded at the beginning of the 8th century in what is now France. The primary goal of the members was the safe transport of goods; guilds provided fast and reliable support in cases of emergencies and accidents on either land or sea. Some guilds were so successful that they were able to establish trade monopolies in cities and in some cases in whole regions. These monopolies gave the guilds political power, so much so that at times a guild could control whole cities.
One of the most important, successful and famous guilds of that time was the "Hanseatic League" (
)
Guilds in Bounty Bay Online
Set in the era of strong guilds, Bounty Bay Online provides players with an opportunity to form and administrate player-made guilds. There are so many possibilities with guilds in Bounty Bay Online that it is difficult to list them all here. Thus we will only concentrating on the major aspects of guilds in this document. You can find more information about guilds in either the forums or ingame.
How to form a guild
You can found a new guild at the guild manager who can be found in nearly every large port. You need to meet a few requirements to form your own guild:

The ships in Bounty Bay Online are modelled after real ships from the 14th to 16th century. We have paid great attention to the detail of these models, so that every ship's features and properties resemble those of the originals. That means that it is difficult to turn a merchant ship into a good battleship or have a warship carry as much cargo as a merchant ship. Both of the forementioned ship types won´t ever be as fast as an explorer ship.
Basically there are three ship types in Bounty Bay Online:
Ship Classes
The Explorer Class
Has average cargo capacity and armament. However, it is the fastest ship class in Bounty Bay Online.
The Merchant Class
Has by far the largest capacity for goods of any kind. Disadvantages include weak armament, weak hull and sails that are very vulnerable against enemy fire and the slowest travel speed of the 3 ship classes.
The Warship Class
Has the greatest firepower of all ship classes as well as the strongest hull and sails, thus making these ships the masters of the seas. Because of the large size and heavy armament, warships are quite slow and not very agile. Additionally, the cargo capacity is relatively small and they cannot hold as many sailors or as much food or ammunition.
The player can choose which of the three ship classes he/she would like to use in Bounty Bay Online and if he/she can´t choose then he/she can always own more than one ship. The only restriction in Bounty Bay Online is that you can command only one ship at any given time. Non-"active" ships are kept at the drydock in port as long as they aren´t being used.
Ship Interface
In this interface, all essential information about a ship in Bounty Bay Online is displayed. Just move your mouse over one of the properties to read more about it.

Fighting
The 14th to 16th century was a dangerous time. Battles for honour and glory often led to the deaths of those involved. Battles were foughts on all known oceans as well as on land. In Bounty Bay Online, we have both land and sea battles.
To help introduce you to the BBO combat skills, we have made a few videos of the various battles modes.
Land Fight
As we told you earlier, the life on land wasn´t much safer than at sea and peaceful cooperation was a rather rare occurance. The suburbs of the larger ports and most coasts were rather dangerous even for the bravest adventurer. From dangerous animals like wolves, boars and bears to legendary creatures, outlaws or guarded secret tombs.
In Bounty Bay Online you always have to have an eye for your surroundings or you can quickly end up dead. Assumed safe passages aren´t always what they look like and can emerge as deadly traps. It doesn´t matter if you are good with a sword, cutlass, axe or pistol... only the skilled warrior should go deeper into the wild. At first you will find opponents that can easily be defeated, but the farther you venture, the harder the enemies will get and quickly you will face enemies that can only be defeated by a group of battlehardened veterans. How successful you are in your adventures is dependant on a lot of factors. A good weapon and armor is as important as your skill in using your equipment and skills, because special moves like critical hits or armor piercing blow can only be used with the correct skills.
Part 1: The Order
The Ares Warrior Alliance Master gave us the mission to defeat a few pirates in Crete. Because we have been in the warrior alliance for quite some time now and their missions always turned out to be lucrative and glorious, we decided to accept the mission. We anchor a short distance away from the coast of Crete and wait for some of the Crete pirates to turn up. Then we chose our victim from the sea voyage window and as soon as it is close enough, we give the orders to attack.
Part 2: The Naval Battle
Soon we are in the midst of the sea battle. Our choice of tactics depends largely on the type of ship our enemy is using und their strength. For example, if they have a very fast ship, it is possible to destroy their sails using chainshot and cripple their mobility, so that they can´t escape. If we have succeeded in stopping our enemy, we can maneuver our own ship in a good position and start firing on their hull. After a short fight, we are victorius, our enemy is sunk to the bottom of the sea and we can pick up the floating loot.
Part 3: The Final
Another and much more glorious way to destroy an enemy is to board their ship. Because the enemy has a large number of sailors, we first have to decimate them using explosive shells. After we have done that and the chances for our own victory are higher, we start a ramming maneuver, which additionally weakens our enemy. If we are in reach of the enemy ship, we can fire our grappling hook. If we are successful, the real boarding in Bounty Bay Online begins.
Sailors start their assault and try to defeat the pirates. If we are strong enough for a melee fight, it is suggested to defeat the enemy captain as soon as possible, because then his sailors lose morale and can be defeated easier. If we are unable to defeat the enemy captain, we can at least destroy the enemy ship´s mast and rudder. Both will count as a decisive victory and ends the fight. Of course there is always the possibility that our own ship will be boarded, so it can be reasonable to destroy all enemy grappling hooks as well. If all of them are destroyed the boarding of our ship fails.
Skills
On this page we will explain the skill system of Bounty Bay Online to you. The first part of this document will tell you everything about the basic character skills and the second part will explain the active skills to you.
The passive skills
The passive character skills are the same for all characters, so everbody starts on even ground. While playing the game, each player decides what class he wants to play, be it merchant, warrior, crafter and so on. The basic skills raise automatically by earning experience. Other skills are also dependant on the equipment used by the character, for example the defensive skills are better with better armor and the attacking skills are higher with better weapons.

The active skills
Contrary to the passive skills, the active skills have to be learned and trained separately. Basically you can learn those skills at a skill trainer and they can be trained further only with enough experience in that skill. If a player reaches level 31 they can´t learn the skill any further, because they have to advance it to phase 2 first. For that they have to visit the skill tutor again and after it has been promoted to phase 2, the skill can be raised up to level 100. You can only promote up to 7 skills to phase 2 (level 31+) and the player can freely choose which skills he wants to master. When a player has at least 3 skills of level 61 or higher they can have pupils. You can learn more on the master-pupil system in Bounty Bay Online at the administrator of master/prentice system in every large port.
| Main Skills |

| Crafting Skills |
|
| Fighting Skills |
|
| Secondary Skills |
|
In Bounty Bay Online, trade professions can be broken down into two groups: the crafters (advanced professions) and the resource gatherers (secondary professions). Crafting work requires resources, and resource gatherers can provide these resources. The main resource gathering professions in Bounty Bay Online are: miner, lumberjack, farmer. The rest of this page will focus on the advanced professions since it is the crafters that actually create the end products.
You can find out more about the main resource gathering professions under "The world » skills" .
Smith
![]() |
At first, the smith will only be able to build basic equipment. However, with experience, he/she will be able to manufacture better goods. The weapons of a master smith are superior to the store bought weapons. For the creation of higher quality weapons, the smith requires wood and iron ore, thus the lumberjack and mining skills are a reasonable complement to the smithing skill |
Shipbuilder
![]() |
In Bounty Bay Online, shipbuilders can craft figureheads ( Figureheads built by shipbuilders are usually of better quality than store bought figureheads. Because wood and iron ore are the two ressources needed for building maritime equipment and figureheads, the mining and lumberjacking skill are a good addition to the shipbuilding skill. |
Alchemist
![]() |
Alchemists were also called in to help sick people with healing potions. In Bounty Bay Online, adventurers need healing potions to survive their dangerous battles and expeditions and crafters need stamina potions to craft their goods faster. These potions are manufactured by alchemists, who can brew stronger heal potions, longer lasting stamina potions or more deadly poison potions depending on their skill level. Because you need herbs and other plants for brewing potions, farming is a good addition to the alchemy skill. |
Tailor
![]() |
In Bounty Bay Online, the tailor-made clothes not only have different looks, but also have different abilities. With the help of special cloth, the tailor can craft clothing that can give warriors additional protection or exceptionally light garments that allow miners to transport more ore. With higher skill, the tailor can make clothing that has a higher quality than the clothing you can buy on the market. Because the tailor needs cloth to craft his goods, farming is a good additional skill for the tailor. |
On this website we would like to give you a some information about pets in Bounty Bay Online and how they work.
Generally speaking, every player in Bounty Bay Online can own one or more pets. This is only limited by the fact, that you need a special pet bait to tame pets. Pet bait for the different pets can be obtained by doing special quests.
To obtain a pet, you have to tame it first and not all monsters are tameable. Tameable monsters have a (tameable) tag in front of their name.
Players can own as many pets as they like. You can even own more than one pet of the same type.
How to tame and call a pet
If you want to own a pet, you need the corresponding pet bait for the pet’s class. Pet Bait can be obtained through special quests.
If you have the correct pet bait for the pet that you want to tame, target the animal and right click on the food in your inventory. The taming process lasts for 60 to 90 seconds and while you are taming you should neither move nor attack the animal, even if it is attacking you (turn off auto counter-attack).
After the time is up, the pet bait will be deleted from the inventory and will be replaced by a pet whistle. With this whistle, the player controls his pet.
IMPORTANT:: If the taming process is interrupted, regardless of what caused the interruption, the pet bait is lost and you will have to get new pet bait in order to try again. Because of this, you should make sure that you aren’t disturbed by other players or NPCs while taming.
With the help of the whistle, you can call your pet by right clicking on it. Right clicking again sends your pet away. If you have called your pet, you have to wait at least 60 seconds before you can send it away again.
Pet Stats
Besides the option to change the name of your pet, the pet stats window shows detailed information about your pet.

Pet Abilities
Each pet has abilities that can be put into the shortcut bar and then activated from there.
If a pet fights, its master gets experience in the weapon skill he is currently using, e.g. if a player wields a sword he will get experience in sword fighting. The amount of experience the player gets from his/her pet is lower than when they personally fight.
On this page, we’ll want to give you an oversight, how the city siege system in Bounty Bay Online works. After reading the following pages, you’ll know how both attackers and defenders have to prepare for a city siege and how the actual siege works.
Bidding for the sieging rights
Guilds have to bid for the right to siege a city.
Only the guild with the highest bid at the end of the bidding period, receives the right to attack the city they have bid for. Only the guild leader can bid on for the sieging rights and he/she has to use the guild funds to do so. It doesn’t matter how much money the leader or any other members personally have.
Quick facts for bidding on the sieging rights:
- The money for the bidding process is taken from the guild funds
- A guild has to be level 5 to bid on a city
- If the city is controlled by an allied guild, a guild can’t bid on that city
- The guild leader can always increase his bid for the sieging rights
- If a guild is outbidded for a city, all guild members will be informed in guild chat
- The bidding NPC can be found near the prefect
- If a guild wins the bid for a city, all guild members will be informed in guild chat
Choosing the battle depot ship
After you have won the bidding for the sieging rights on a city, you should get your battle depot ship ready.
You can get the different battle depot ships in the item shop. You can open the item shop by clicking on the scroll type icon in the lower right corner of your interface or by using CTRL + A.
If you click on the “Contact” menu option and then on the $ sign, you can choose from the following types of battle depot ships:
- Floater
- Battle Scene
- Single Battle
- Island
- Iceberg
- Reef
The appearance of the battle depot ship has no influence on the functions of the ship. All ships have the same capabilities and you can choose the different appearances to adapt your ship better to the geographical surroundings of the city you want to attack.
Quick facts for choosing a battle depot ship:
- The appearance of the ship has no influence on the ships functions. All ships have the same capabilities
- Only the guild leader can place a battle depot ship
- The battle depot ship can only be placed on the open sea
- The battle depot ship can only be placed during preparation time
- The battle depot ship is deleted automatically at the end of the fight
- All attacking guild members or allies respawn on the battle depot ship when they die during the fight
Capabilities of the battle depot ship
A battle depot ship is the staging area, where the attackers and their allies meet and prepare themselves for the city siege.
Only the attacking guild and their allies can access the battle depot ship. As soon as the preparation time has started, the guildmaster can place his battle depot ship on the open sea anywhere close to the city he wants to attack.
The advantage of the battle depot ship is, that attacking players who have been killed in combat, respawn on that ship reasonably close to the besieged city and can reenter the battle from there if they want to.
Another advantage is that all attacking players have a place where they can meet and prepare for the attack. They don’t have to wait on the open sea, where they would use up food for their sailors etc.
Quick facts for battle depot ship capabilities:
- The battle depot ship is the staging area for the attacking guild and their allies
- You can buy equipment for the sea battle on the battle depot ship
- You can buy equipment for the land battle on the battle depot ship
- Attackers who are killed in the siege respawn on the battle depot ship
- The battle depot ship doesn’t show the defenders how many attackers are waiting on the ship
- Allied guilds that have been invited to the siege, have access to the battle depot ship
Allied Guilds
Depending on the size and strength of a guild, you may need more people than a guild has members for the siege to be successful.
Because of this, a guild leader can invite allied guilds to participate in the city siege. The button to invite members of allied guilds can be found pressing CTRL + A in the contact menu and looks like a small red flag.
Just target the player you want to invite, press the button and after both parties confirm the invitation, the member of the allied guild gets the name of the attacking guild as an additional title under his name. A list of all members of other guilds that have been invited to participate in the attack can be displayed by clicking on the “check alliance” button in the same menu.
Quick facts for allied guilds:
- Allied guilds can’t take control over the city if the city siege is won
- Allied guilds have no disadvantage by participating in a city siege, like e.g. losing reputation
- Allied guilds can be invited only in the preparation phase or during the battle
Sea Battle Phase
All guild members will be informed about the start of the actual battle phase by a message in guild chat.
The attackers have to fight their way through the cities offshore first. All members that are still on the battle depot ship when the battle phase starts, have to sail from the ship to the besieged city.
Attackers that are already in the city at the start of the battle phase have to enter the cities offshore scene by using the dock worker in the harbour. The attackers using this option will start further away in the offshore than usual, so that they won’t get fired upon immediately by the cities artillery when they enter the scene.
The goal of the attackers should be to reach the shore. Once they have reached the shore, there are different possibilities for what to do next:
You can either go directly to the harbour or you can search for the secret entrances to the city. Those entrances are a little further away from the harbour and can easily be found by pressing the ALT key. The advantage of the secret entrances is, that you can’t be attacked easily by the city artillery. Attackers that are strong enough, can of course also attack and destroy the cities defences directly.
If a city is controlled by another guild, that guild together with their allies will try to prevent the attackers from reaching the shore and depending on the military level of the city, the city might have additional npc ships on the defenders side too.
Quick facts for sea battle phase:
- The attackers goal is to reach the shore of the city
- You can participate in the sea battle by entering the offshore scene of the city
- If a city has a navy, they will try to defend the city
- If a city is controlled by a guild, this guild and their allies can defend the city as well
- If an attacking ship is sunk, the player respawns on the battle depot ship
- You can´t get any fame or reputation by killing other players in a city siege
- You can participate in the sea battle as long as the city is under siege
- Attackers that are in the attacked city at the start of the siege won´t be attacked by guards
- Not every city has secret city entrances
Land Battle Phase
If an attacker successfully passes the city offshore, he reaches the shore and the land battle starts.
The goal of the land battle is to reach and destroy the cities commanding flag in the middle of the cities fortress. If the player is relatively safe when he enters the shore, there will be more defenders the closer he gets to the commanding flag.
If the city isn’t controlled by a guild, the only defenders will be NPCs from the cities militia. The strength of the defenders will be determined by the military level of the city. It isn’t necessary to kill every defender, as soon as the commanding flag is destroyed, the battle is won and the city is captured.
If the city is controlled by a guild, the members of that guild and their allies can defend the city as well.
If an attacker dies during the battle, he respawns on the battle depot ship and can re-enter the battle if he wants to.
To maximize the chance for victory, players shouldn’t attack the fortress one by one as soon as they reach the shore, but the attack should be coordinated and with as many attackers as possible.
Quick facts for land battle phase:
- The attackers goal is to destroy the commanding city flag
- The attackers have to pass the city offshore to reach the land battle. Defenders can reach the land battle using the docker NPC
- Only the attacking and defending guild and their allies can participate in the land battle
- If an attacker dies, he respawns on the battle depot ship
- You can´t get fame or reputation by killing other players in a city siege
- The land battle is possible for the whole duration of the city siege
Victory and defeat for the attackers
The primary goal of the attackers is of course to capture the city. To reach that goal, the commanding flag of the city must be destroyed. If the attacking guild is successful in destrying the flag in the designated timeframe, the attackers are victorious and they will then control the city. If the attackers don’t destroy the commanding flag in the designated timeframe, the defenders are victorious.
The length of the siege period varies from city to city, but shouldn’t be shorter than one hour and begins with the start of the actual battle period.
Quick facts for victory and defeat for the attackers:
- The attackers goal is to destroy the commanding flag
- If the commanding flag is destroyed, the battle ends and the attackers are victorious
- The commanding flag has to be destroyed in the designated timeframe, it isn’t necessary to kill every defender
- The length of the siege period varies from city to city
- Every city can be attacked once per week
- At the end of the battle, both attackers and defenders get a summary of the battle
